When Sin Starts Calling, Remember: Grace is the New Boss. Don't Let Temptation Write The Next Chapter! Sin Is Dethroned!

“Knock, Knock” - “Who’s there?” - “Sin” - “Sin who?” -

“SIN-CERELY, your worst decision

 waiting to happen!”

Knock knock joke. Evils dethroned angel sitting around skulls trying to get people to sin.

Sin desires you. It calls out to you relentlessly, trying to rule over you like a king ruling his people (Genesis 4:7). Sin seeks to enslave you, demanding your obedience to its desires. But if you have died with Christ through baptism, you are no longer a slave to sin (Romans 6:3-4). Jesus took upon Himself all sin, rendering sin powerless over you (Romans 6:6).

Romans 6:3-4 "Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life."
Romans 6:6: "For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless, so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin."

THATS EXCITING, ISN'T IT?

Yet, sin does not stop calling. It lures you like a siren, tempting you to return to its rule. If you answer its call and offer any part of yourself—your mind, hands, feet, tongue, or heart—to sin, you become a "weapon of unrighteousness" (Romans 6:13). Sin seeks to enslave every part of you that you yield to it, turning you into an agent of hypocrisy and corruption.

But you must remember this truth: You were crucified with Christ so that your body, once ruled by sin, is now powerless (Galatians 2:20; Romans 6:6). You are no longer a slave to sin; you are alive to God through Christ (Romans 6:11). Instead of yielding to sin, give all of yourself—your mind, hands, feet, tongue, and heart—to God. When you do this, God will use you as a weapon for righteousness, reflecting His glory and grace (Romans 6:13).

Romans 6:13 (CSB) says: "And do not offer any parts of it to sin as weapons for unrighteousness. But as those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness."

A Slave to Righteousness

Before, you were a slave to impurity and lawlessness, and the wages of sin was death (Romans 6:19, 23). But now, through Jesus Christ, you are no longer bound to sin. Instead, you are a slave to righteousness, sanctified, and set apart for God .

Romans 6:18: "You were freed from sin and became enslaved to righteousness."

Though sin will still call out to you, it no longer has a hold on you. Its voice may sound enticing, like a snare trying to drag you back into its death grip. But God’s grace is greater (Romans 5:20-21). When sin calls, let it go to voicemail. Let your response be these declarations:

"I have received the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness. I reign in life through Jesus Christ." (Romans 5:17)

"I was buried with Christ in His tomb and have risen to new life with Him." (Romans 6:4)

"My old self was crucified with Christ; I am dead to sin and alive to God." (Romans 6:6-7, 11)

"I am a weapon for righteousness, bearing fruit for God." (Romans 6:22)

Grace Overcomes the Law

The law revealed sin and brought death, but Jesus fulfilled the law and bore the penalty of sin on your behalf (Romans 7:4-6). Through His death, He took the wrath of God that was rightfully yours. By faith, you are united with Him in His death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:5). This is the gift of grace: eternal life in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:23).

Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Your death with Christ released you from the law and the dominion of sin. You are no longer bound to the shame of your old self because that person has died. Jesus was there with you, witnessing your death IN HIM. The wages of sin were paid in full BY Jesus’ sacrifice. Now, as a new creation, you bear fruit for God—fruit that leads to sanctification and eternal life (Romans 7:4; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Scriptural Foundations

  • Genesis 4:7 – "If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it."

  • Romans 6:3-7 – "Do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? … We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin."

  • Romans 6:11-13 – "Consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life."

  • Romans 6:18-23 – "You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. … The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

  • Galatians 2:20 – "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me."

  • Romans 5:17 – "For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ."

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 – "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

Let this truth empower you: Sin will call, but it no longer rules over you. Through Jesus, you are dead to sin and alive to God, a weapon for righteousness, bearing fruit that brings glory to His name. Answer sin with the declaration of grace and your new life in Christ.

There is this beautiful scripture in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that says, "No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, so that you are able to bear it."

God always provides a way of escape for you.Just look around,
and you will ALWAYS find it.

God doesn't tempt you with sin. So where does it come from? According to the book of James and Romans, we read:

James 1:14-15: "But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death."
Romans 7:18-20: "For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. … It is no longer I who do it, but sin living in me that does it."

Sin is already within us. It gains power when we feed it. Have you ever heard the story of the two wolves? There were two wolves living inside a person—one was evil, and the other was kind. A little boy asked his grandfather why this was so. The grandfather replied, "The wolf that wins is the one you feed."

This story reflects the idea that we have a choice in what we nurture within ourselves. If we focus on sin, we empower the evil wolf. But if we feed kindness, love, and righteousness, we empower the good wolf, shaping who we become.

Here are examples of how sin calls to different parts of you, attempting to lure you into its grasp. Each example illustrates the subtle and overt ways sin seeks to control your mind, hands, feet, tongue, and heart: I know this might seem obvious, but you would be surprised how many get caught in these daily situations. Study these scriptures.

🖤Sin often begins by calling to your mind through subtle temptations. It introduces negative thoughts that sow doubt and fear, making you question God's promises or your worth. For instance, you might hear, "You're not good enough; God doesn’t care about you," echoing in your mind, just as Satan did in Genesis 3:1 when he tempted Eve.

🖤Sin also plays on human desires, tempting you to fixate on lust or covetousness, leading to envy over what others have or indulging in impure thoughts, like fantasizing about someone who isn’t your spouse, as Jesus warned in Matthew 5:28. Additionally, sin draws you into bitterness and resentment, causing you to replay past offenses and fuel unforgiveness. This can manifest as dwelling on a betrayal and imagining ways to retaliate, as Paul cautioned in Ephesians 4:31. These temptations, if unchecked, can slowly lead you down a path of sin, affecting both your heart and actions.

🖤Sin often calls your hands into action, leading you to use them in ways that harm others and self. It provokes violence and conflict, urging you to use your hands for fighting or causing physical harm, as seen in James 4:1. In moments of anger, you might strike someone during an argument, letting sin take hold of your emotions. Sin also tempts you toward stealing or dishonesty, encouraging you to take what isn’t yours, whether it’s money or property, as Paul warned in Ephesians 4:28.

🖤Sin can lead you to sow discord, using your hands or tongue to spread hurtful messages or engage in divisive actions. This might manifest as writing malicious messages online or vandalizing someone’s property out of spite, as described in Proverbs 6:16-19. These temptations, when acted upon, lead to destruction and hurt, both to others and to yourself. And let's not forget the sexual sins but that is the most obvious.

🖤Sin often calls your feet to lead you down paths of disobedience. It directs your steps toward unrighteousness, urging you to pursue immediate gratification rather than long-term righteousness, as Jesus warned in Matthew 7:13. This could manifest as walking into places you know will lead to sin, like a party or a strip club, where temptation is prevalent.

🖤Sin also calls you to follow the crowd, pressuring you to join in wrongdoing even when you know it’s wrong, as seen in Exodus 23:2. This might look like walking with friends to commit an act of bullying or vandalism, participating in behavior that you know deep down isn’t right.

🖤Sin tempts you to turn away from God’s path, drawing you away from righteous choices, as Proverbs 4:26-27 advises. It might manifest as skipping opportunities to serve or worship because of selfish desires, choosing personal comfort over obedience to God. These temptations can lead you further from the path of righteousness, distancing you from God’s will for your life.

🖤Sin often calls your tongue into action, leading you to use your words in ways that harm others and distance you from God. It encourages speaking evil or gossiping, using your tongue to destroy someone's reputation, as James 3:6 warns. This could look like sharing a secret to humiliate someone or spreading false information to tarnish their name.

🖤Sin also fuels unforgiveness and bitterness, calling you to speak harshly or refuse reconciliation, as Ephesians 4:29 cautions. For example, saying, "I’ll never forgive you for what you did," keeps you trapped in anger and resentment.

🖤Sin tempts you to boast and take pride in yourself, using your tongue to glorify your own achievements rather than giving glory to God, as Proverbs 27:2 advises. This might manifest as bragging about your accomplishments in a way that belittles others or elevates your own status. These temptations can stir division, pride, and destruction, undermining relationships and your walk with God.

🖤Sin often calls your heart, leading it to harbor attitudes and desires that pull you away from God. It encourages unforgiveness, hardening your heart and making it difficult to release others from their wrongs, as Matthew 6:14-15 warns. This can manifest as holding onto anger toward a family member who hurt you years ago, refusing to let go and forgive.

🖤Sin also stirs envy and jealousy, causing feelings of resentment toward others’ success or blessings, as James 3:14-16 cautions. Thoughts like, “Why does she always get everything I want?” can consume you, causing you to lose joy in your own blessings.

🖤Sin leads to idolatry, causing your heart to prioritize anything above God, as Ezekiel 14:3 speaks to. This might look like obsessing over material wealth or relationships, focusing on them more than on seeking God. These temptations, if allowed to take root, can cloud your heart and weaken your relationship with God.

Sometimes, it feels like we’re living in a tug-of-war between doing what’s right and giving in to those sneaky temptations. But let’s face it—no one is perfect. Even on our best days, we’re still far from flawless. That’s why we can’t forget that our righteousness is a gift from Jesus, not something we can earn or perfect on our own. When we stumble—and we will—we don’t need to stay down. We simply ask for forgiveness, make it right, and learn from it. And here’s the kicker: every time we mess up, God’s grace is ready and waiting. So, let’s stop beating ourselves up and get back on track with joy. After all, we’re not just forgiven; we’re empowered to do better! Keep moving forward—because our Savior didn’t just save us for today, He saved us for tomorrow too. And that’s a reason to get excited!

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your Word that teaches us about sin, reveals Your heart, and reminds us of all You have prepared for us. When we choose to ignore Your guidance, we truly have no excuse, for You have laid out all we need to walk in Your truth.

Thank You for Your unwavering faithfulness to a people who don’t deserve Your kindness, goodness, and love. Yet, You have always pursued us, never giving up on us. I pray in Jesus' name, help me to remain strong as I walk away from the sins I once was a slave to. Grant me the strength to resist the influences of sin that try to entangle me again.

Thank You for the leverage You’ve provided and the escape routes You’ve made for me. May I not make excuses but instead, always remind myself to walk humbly, desiring to do as You will.

Forgive my failures, Lord, and help me to grow more and more in Your divine wisdom and understanding. I pray for Your guidance not only for my own life but for the lives of those You place in my path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
