Did you know God was on His way to kill Moses?

Did you know that before Moses embarked on his remarkable journey, there was a pivotal moment when God was actually preparing to kill Moses? This lesser-known incident sheds light on the significance of obedience and serves as an important lesson. Let's explore the story, focusing on Moses' disobedience regarding the circumcision of his son.

Exodus 4:24-26 states:
"At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses and was about to kill him. But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son's foreskin and touched Moses' feet with it. 'Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,' she said. So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said 'bridegroom of blood,' referring to circumcision.)"

In this intriguing passage from the book of Exodus, we witness a dramatic and enigmatic encounter between Moses, his wife Zipporah, and the Lord. As Moses and his family rested at a lodging place during their journey, an astonishing turn of events unfolded.

Out of the blue, the Lord confronted Moses with the intention to take his life. The precise reason behind God's sudden anger is presumed to be that Moses did not circumcise his son. Circumcision, a significant covenant sign for the Israelites, symbolized their commitment and obedience to God. Yet, Moses had neglected to fulfill this sacred rite, thereby disregarding an essential aspect of his relationship with the Almighty.

In an urgent act to save Moses, Zipporah took a flint knife and promptly performed the circumcision herself. She then touched Moses' feet with the severed foreskin and exclaimed, "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me." Her peculiar declaration seemed to acknowledge the significance of the covenant and its requirement of circumcision but also, perhaps her dislike of the act.

Miraculously, God relented. Moses' life was spared, and the immediate danger passed. This event remains shrouded in mystery, leaving many questions unanswered. Yet, it serves as a poignant reminder of the gravity of obedience in our relationship with God. Even the chosen leader of His people was held accountable for his transgressions, highlighting the importance of faithfulness to God's commands.

The account of Moses' near-death experience with God and Zipporah's swift action carries profound lessons for us today. It underscores the significance of prompt obedience, the necessity of honoring the covenant, and the weightiness of our responsibilities in our walk with God.

This incident highlights the need for immediate obedience. Moses had delayed in circumcising his son, It seems that Zipporah, Moses' wife, may have had reservations about the idea of circumcising their son which resulted in God's fierce response. It underscores the significance of promptly adhering to God's instructions, for delayed obedience can have severe repercussions.

This prompts us to reflect on our own lives and consider areas where we may be neglecting to follow God's commands. Just as Moses learned the hard way, our disobedience can have far-reaching consequences and hinder our effectiveness in fulfilling God's purposes.

Are you willing to face the truth about your stubbornness? Consider this: What areas of your life are you being unfaithful to God's commands or ignoring His calling? Are you ready to bear the cost of your resistance?

Moses' near-disastrous encounter with God serves as a stark reminder that disobedience comes with a heavy price. It's time to reflect on your own actions and ask yourself: Do you truly want to suffer the consequences of your disobedience?

The awe-inspiring tale of Moses may leave us grappling with complex emotions, particularly when considering the divine intervention that was poised to take his life. It's natural for such thoughts to give us pause and evoke a sense of unease. However, it is precisely through these moments of contemplation that we can find solace and inspiration in the transformative power of God's grace.

When we reflect on Moses' encounter with God's anger, we are reminded of the depth of God's holiness and the righteous standards He upholds. It is true that, in our imperfect state, we fall short of these standards. Our faults and shortcomings may cause us to wonder how God perceives us and whether we can ever measure up.

But here is where the beauty of the New Testament comes into play—a profound shift occurred when Jesus, the embodiment of God's love and mercy, entered the world. Through His sacrificial death and resurrection, Jesus became our righteousness, bridging the gap between our human frailties and God's perfect holiness.

In the New Testament, we are invited into a new covenant, one built on the foundation of grace and forgiveness. The transformative power of Jesus' life, teachings, and ultimate sacrifice offers us hope and redemption. We no longer need to live in fear or condemnation, for God's love and forgiveness have been poured out abundantly through Jesus.

This realization should fill us with gratitude and inspire a desire for change. Knowing that God sees us through the lens of Jesus' righteousness, we can embrace the transformative journey of growth and spiritual renewal. It is through this process that we align ourselves with God's perfect will, seeking to live in obedience and gratitude for the immeasurable gift of salvation.

In the New Testament, we find a blueprint for righteous living—a path that leads us away from the bondage of sin and into the freedom of abundant life in Christ. It encourages us to lay aside our old ways, to surrender our faults and weaknesses at the feet of Jesus, and to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.

So, as we reflect on Moses' awe-inspiring story and the depths of God's justice and holiness, let us also celebrate the incredible love and mercy that Jesus has bestowed upon us. Let us embrace the transformative power of the New Testament, finding comfort in the assurance that God sees us through the righteousness of Christ. May this awareness ignite within us a profound gratitude and a fervent desire to live in accordance with the principles of love, grace, and obedience, empowered by the transformative work of Jesus in our lives.
