The Truth about Suffering that we Ignore & a Prayer for Loved ones, Lost in Rebellion.

Updated: Aug 29, 2023

In a world dominated by instant gratification and materialistic pursuits, the deceptive notion that good deeds yield only good outcomes and bad actions result in immediate consequences has seeped into the minds of many. This mindset stands in stark contrast to the teachings of the Gospel, which remind us that God's will supersedes the ways of man. Just as Jesus declared to Peter, "Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given Me?" Another translation writes, "Do you really think I will avoid the suffering which my Father has assigned to me?" Well we, too, are called to embrace God's will, even when it involves suffering for the Kingdom. Let us explore this biblical truth and understand how it liberates us from the world's deceptive mindset.

The World's Deceptive Mindset

The world's mindset is often characterized by a transactional view of life—doing good in expectation of immediate rewards and avoiding bad behavior to evade punishment. This outlook promotes a self-centered approach that lacks genuine spiritual depth. It conveniently ignores the fact that life is full of complexities, and our actions don't always lead to predictable outcomes. This mindset fosters disillusionment and hinders us from embracing the bigger picture of God's divine plan.

Embracing God's Will over Man's Ways

Scripture is full with examples that challenge the world's mindset and encourage us to embrace God's will above all else.

  1. Job's Story: The story of Job demonstrates that suffering isn't necessarily a direct result of personal wrongdoing. Job's unwavering faith through trials teaches us that God's plans often extend beyond our understanding, and His purpose may involve challenges that refine our character and faith.

  2. Joseph's Journey: Joseph's life was filled with trials and betrayal, yet his unwavering trust in God led to his eventual rise from slavery to a position of authority in Egypt. His story illustrates that even in the face of adversity, God's sovereignty prevails.

  3. Jesus' Crucifixion: The pinnacle of God's will triumphing over man's ways is seen in Jesus' crucifixion. Though unjustly condemned, Jesus willingly endured suffering to fulfill God's redemptive plan for humanity. His sacrifice shattered the misconception that only good results from good and bad from bad.

  4. Paul's Perspective: The apostle Paul acknowledged the dichotomy between God's wisdom and worldly wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:18-25). He embraced persecution and suffering, recognizing that God's strength is perfected in weakness.

  5. Enduring for the Kingdom: The New Testament repeatedly urges believers to endure suffering for the sake of the Kingdom (2 Timothy 3:12). This perseverance reflects our commitment to God's will and serves as a testimony to His transformative power.

Counteracting Deception with Truth

To overcome the deception of the world's mindset, we must root ourselves in biblical truths:

  1. God's Sovereignty: Acknowledge that God's ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9) and that His will encompasses both joy and suffering.

  2. Eternal Perspective: Fix your eyes on eternal rewards rather than immediate gratification (2 Corinthians 4:17-18).

  3. Faithful Obedience: Follow Christ's example of obediently enduring suffering in alignment with God's will (1 Peter 2:21).

  4. Transformed Thinking: Renew your mind with God's Word, seeking His wisdom above worldly wisdom (Romans 12:2).

In an era marked by instant gratification and superficial pursuits, it becomes crucial for us to delve into the profound truths of our faith. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, exemplified the depth of divine purpose when He conversed with Peter about embracing the Father's plan, regardless of the challenges it presented. This principle transcends the boundaries of time and remains pertinent in our lives, particularly as we navigate the complexities of our faith journey, especially within the context of the last days.

In these times, it's imperative that we shed our tendencies toward self-centeredness, pride, stubbornness, and rebellion against God's Word. We're called to rise above these inclinations and immerse ourselves in the Scriptures with an attitude of approval, seeking to internalize the Word and be equipped to intercede for others. This not only brings glory to God but also amplifies His power at work within us.

As we journey through life's challenges, let us dismantle the illusions propagated by the world's shallow mindset. Let our faith stand unwavering, unshaken by the storm of circumstances, rooted in the knowledge that Christ proclaimed, "In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). Our ability to navigate these challenges lies not in our own strength but in our reliance on God's sovereignty.

Pray this Prayer over the Lost souls:

Praying for Transformation and Repentance in Those Resistant to God's Call

Heavenly Father,

We come before You with hearts burdened for those who are veering away from Your truth and choosing to remain in a state of rebellion: (...insert names...) Lord, You know each heart intimately, and we lift up those individuals who are intentionally turning away from Your light. Your Word tells us in Isaiah 55:6-7, "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon."

Lord, we ask that You touch their hearts and soften the areas that have grown resistant to Your Word. We pray from Ezekiel 36:26, "And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." Remove the stubbornness and resistance that prevents them from seeking Your truth and embracing the transformation You offer.

We know, Lord, that You desire relationship over ritual, and genuine repentance over empty religiosity. We pray that You break down the walls of pride and rebellion that stand between them and Your grace. In Jeremiah 29:13, You promise, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Open their eyes to the beauty of knowing You and the abundant life that comes from walking in Your ways.

Lord, we intercede with the power of Your Word, knowing that it is sharper than any double-edged sword. We declare Hebrews 4:12 over their lives: "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."

May Your Holy Spirit work relentlessly in their hearts, dismantling every stronghold of ignorance and rebellion. Help them recognize that the call to follow You is a call to a transformed life filled with purpose and joy. We declare Philippians 2:13, "for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure."

Father, we place these loved ones in Your capable hands, trusting that Your grace can penetrate even the most resistant hearts. We pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life. Amen.
