"Screen Time Vs Green Time: Tech's Impact on Childhood and Why Nature is Crucial for a Well-Rounded

The advent of technology and social media has undoubtedly changed the way we live, work, and interact with each other. While these advancements have brought many benefits, they have also created a culture of immediacy, instant gratification, and an obsession with technology that is negatively affecting our children's upbringing.

Today's children are growing up in a world where virtual experiences are often preferred over real-life interactions. They spend countless hours in front of screens, scrolling through social media feeds, and playing video games, instead of engaging in outdoor activities like gardening, riding bikes, and exploring the natural world around them.

This shift in priorities has had a significant impact on their development, and as a result, we are witnessing a growing divide between the experiences of children born into the "video generation" and those who grew up without the constant presence of technology.

The differences between these two groups of individuals are becoming increasingly apparent as they reach adulthood. Those who were raised on technology are often more socially isolated, struggle with attention span and critical thinking skills, and lack an appreciation for the natural world. In contrast, those who grew up without technology are more connected to their communities, have stronger problem-solving abilities, and value experiences over material possessions.

This dilemma is an obvious one that demands our attention. We must ensure that our children are exposed to the wonders of the natural world, taught how to connect with others face-to-face, and instilled with the critical thinking skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the world. By doing so, we can help them grow into well-rounded adults who are equipped to face the challenges of the future, and who can appreciate the beauty of the world around them.

One scripture that supports the importance of experiencing and appreciating the natural world is Psalm 19:1-2, which reads:

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge."

This passage reminds us that the natural world is a manifestation of God's handiwork and reveals His wisdom and majesty. It encourages us to take notice of the beauty and wonder around us, and to appreciate the lessons that can be learned through the observation of nature.
