The Devil's Legal Access: How Unforgiveness, Immorality, Occultism, Pride, and Anger Can Open Doors

Updated: May 3, 2023

Scripture warns us of the dangers of allowing the devil legal access into our lives. Through various behaviors and attitudes, we can create open doors that allow evil to take hold. Unforgiveness, sexual immorality, involvement in the occult, pride, and anger are just a few ways that we can give the devil legal access.

Unforgiveness and bitterness can be a slippery slope that leads to resentment and anger.

This can create an opening for the devil to take hold, as Ephesians 4:26-27 warns us: "In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold."

Sexual immorality is another way that we can create a legal access for the devil. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to flee from sexual immorality, as 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 tells us: "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own."

Involvement in the occult, witchcraft, or any other form of spiritualism can also give the devil legal access. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 warns us against these practices, saying: "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord."

Pride is another way that we can give the devil legal access. Proverbs 16:18 warns us that "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." When we allow pride to take root, we can become blinded to our own faults and vulnerable to the devil's attacks.

Finally, anger that is not controlled can also give the devil legal access. James 1:19-20

tells us: "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this:

Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires."

It's important for us to be aware of these potential areas of weakness and to guard against them through prayer and seeking God's wisdom and strength. We mu

st always remember that the devil is looking for any opportunity to gain a foothold in our lives, and we must be vigilant in our efforts to resist his influence.

Pray this prayer to shut down evil doors:

Heavenly Father,

I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ, asking for your protection and guidance in my life. I ask that you would help me to recognize any areas where I have opened the door to the devil and

to close those doors of legal access.

Lord, I repent of any unforgiveness, bitterness, or resentment in my heart towards others. I ask for your forgiveness and help to extend forgiveness to those who have wronged me. Please remove any

foothold that the enemy may have gained in my life through these attitudes.

I also confess any sexual immorality, occultism, or pride in my life. I ask for your forgiveness and your cleansing power to remove any legal access that the enemy may have gained through these actions.

Lord, I renounce any involvement with the devil and any of his works, and I declare that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I plead the blood of Jesus over my life and ask that you would surround me with your protection.

Father, I ask that you would fill me with your Holy Spirit and grant me wisdom, discernment, and strength to resist the devil and all his schemes. Help me to put on the armor of God, to stand firm against the enemy, and to walk in obedience to your will.

Thank you, Lord, for your love, grace, and mercy. I trust in you to protect me from the enemy and to lead me in the paths of righteousness. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
