The Creed of Pride: Satan’s Fall and the Truth About Rising Through Humility

PRIDE VERSUS HUMILITY. Satan versus Jesus

Why are we so easily overlooking something as detrimental as pride and rebellion, treating it like no big deal? You would think the difference between pride, rebellion, and humility would be obvious, but if it were, would the world still be in the darkness it is now? Probably not.

Pride can deceive us with an inflated sense of self-importance, while rebellion often drives us to resist authority for the sake of asserting our own will. Both are subtle in their destructiveness, often cloaked in the guise of independence or confidence.

Humility, however, requires acknowledging our limitations, remaining teachable, and valuing others over ourselves.

The challenge lies in discerning these attitudes, as pride and rebellion can be mistaken for strength or progress when, in reality, they obstruct growth and create disconnection.

The greatest example of the differences between pride, rebellion, and humility comes from two well-known figures: Satan and Jesus. Together, they provide a striking contrast.

Satan embodies pride and rebellion, desiring to elevate himself above all, even God. His fall from grace illustrates the destructive nature of self-exaltation and defiance. He sought power and authority through pride, which ultimately led to his downfall.

Jesus, on the other hand, exemplifies perfect humility. Though He had every right to assert His divine authority, He chose instead to serve, to submit to God's will, and even to sacrifice Himself for others. His life and death reveal the power of humility, selflessness, and obedience.

In these two figures, we see the stark contrast: pride and rebellion lead to ruin, while humility leads to exaltation and life.

Their lives teach us that humility, not self-promotion, is the path to true greatness.

Satan's fall is vividly portrayed in scripture, revealing the destructive power of pride. In Isaiah 14:13-14, his ambition is laid bare as he declares,

“For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”

This declaration of self-exaltation and rebellion against God became not only the catalyst for Satan's downfall but also serves as the very essence of the satanic creed. Many who follow Satanism today adopt these words as their own, echoing this declaration of pride and rebellion as their oath or confession to Satan, aspiring to be like him.

They speak this aloud as a symbol of their rejection of God’s authority and their desire to embody the very pride that led to Satan’s expulsion from heaven. This creed represents a total inversion of God’s command to humble oneself, as it glorifies self-exaltation and rebellion, the same traits that brought about Satan’s ultimate ruin. In contrast to Jesus, who chose the path of humility and submission, Satan’s creed emphasizes pride, autonomy, and the desire to become godlike, further highlighting the eternal consequences of these opposing paths.

This arrogant desire to overthrow God's throne led directly to his downfall. Ezekiel 28:17 further explains his corruption:

"Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth..."

Satan’s pride blinded him, turning his wisdom into folly, which ultimately resulted in his banishment from heaven.

Jesus's humility and subsequent exaltation stand in stark contrast to Satan’s pride. Philippians 2:6-9 highlights this difference:

“Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing... he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place...”

Pride versus Humility- Satan versus Jesus

The Word of God clearly teaches that if you want to rise in His kingdom, you must first be willing to humble yourself. This concept seems counterintuitive to worldly wisdom, where success is often associated with self-promotion, ambition, and climbing the ladder by any means necessary. Yet, Jesus himself modeled a different path—one where humility, service, and obedience come before exaltation. Philippians 2:6-9 shows us that Jesus, though being in very nature God, didn’t cling to His divine status. Instead, He humbled Himself, taking on the form of a servant and even submitting to death on a cross. It was after this ultimate act of humility that God exalted Him to the highest place.

The principle of going down before being lifted up is woven throughout scripture. James 4:10 says, "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." Similarly, Matthew 23:12 tells us, "For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted." The way up in God's kingdom is through humility, surrender, and dependence on Him. It is through lowering ourselves—acknowledging our need for God, serving others, and living in submission to His will—that we are truly raised up in the way that matters most: not in the eyes of the world, but in the eyes of our Creator.

Heavenly Father,

I come before You in the precious name of Jesus, humbly seeking Your presence and guidance. I honor Your Word, which is alive and powerful, and I am deeply grateful for Your unfailing love that continually surrounds and sustains me. Thank You, Lord, for every opportunity to know You more intimately, to grow in wisdom, and to apply Your divine principles to my life. You are my guide and my strength, and I treasure the lessons You teach me every day.

Right now, I lift up this reader and their family into Your loving care. I ask that You do a deep and transformative work in their hearts—a spiritual circumcision that removes anything displeasing to You. If there is any pride, arrogance, or self-reliance present in their lives that hinders their relationship with You, I pray that You reveal it to them gently but clearly. Give them the grace and the strength to quickly recognize, repent, and turn away from anything that creates a barrier between them and the fullness of Your love. May they experience a fresh restoration of their access to Your presence and peace.

Father, I also extend this prayer to their entire family. Let Your Spirit work within each of them, uprooting anything that does not align with Your will, and bringing them into a place of humility and closeness with You. I trust in Your goodness, knowing that You are faithful to complete the good work You’ve begun in their hearts. Thank You for Your mercy and for the transformative power of Your love. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
