"Your Lips Spill the Beans: Unleashing the Mighty Force of Your Words!"

Updated: May 3, 2023

The Bible tells us in Luke 6:45 that "out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks." This means that the words we speak are a reflection of what is in our hearts. If we want to know what is truly in a person's heart, all we have to do is listen to what they say.

The words we speak have immense power. They can bring life or death, blessing or curse. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that "death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit." Our words have the power to shape our lives and the lives of those around us.

Unfortunately, many of us are careless with our words. We say things without thinking about the impact they may have on others. We use words to hurt, to gossip, to manipulate, and to deceive. We forget that our words are like arrows, once released, they cannot be taken back.

Consider an example: a young girl who has always struggled with her weight. She is often teased by her classmates and has developed a negative view of herself. One day, a well-meaning aunt sees her and says, "Wow, you've gained weight, haven't you?" The girl's heart sinks, and she feels even worse about herself. The aunt may not have meant to be hurtful, but her careless words have caused deep wounds that will take a long time to heal.

On the other hand, our words can also bring healing and encouragement. Proverbs 12:18 tells us that "the tongue of the wise brings healing." When we speak words of love, kindness, and encouragement, we can uplift and inspire those around us. Our words can help others to see themselves as God sees them, as beloved children created in His image.

So how can we guard our hearts and choose our words wisely? The first step is to be mindful of what is in our hearts. Are we harboring bitterness, anger, or resentment? Or are we filled with love, joy, and peace? As we take time to examine our hearts, we can ask God to help us remove anything that is not pleasing to Him and fill us with His Spirit.

Secondly, we can be intentional about the words we speak. We can choose to speak life and not death, to build up and not tear down. We can speak words of affirmation, gratitude, and encouragement to those around us. We can choose to use our words to bless others and honor God.

Our words have incredible power, and we must use them wisely. Let us guard our hearts and choose our words carefully, remembering that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. May our words be a source of life, healing, and encouragement to those around us.
