God as Our Warrior: Psalm 35:1-2’s Call for Protection

“Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and armor; arise and come to my aid.” ~Psalm 35:1-2

Feeling tired and overwhelmed? Dreading what today might bring? Are you losing your joy and slipping into depression? If you're feeling overwhelmed by struggles and tired of a season filled with suffering and pain, you're not alone.

In these moments, the weight of negative emotions can be crushing, casting a dark shadow over everything.

It feels like no matter how hard you try to move forward, the darkness mocks you – through your own feelings, the sneers of others, and the judgmental looks of those who don't know the truth of your situation.

You must reach a point where enough is enough. One scripture that offers immense relief and freedom from darkness and worry is:

“Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and armor; arise and come to my aid.” ~Psalm 35:1-2

God is telling you that He contends (fights) on your behalf. He is actively fighting against those who oppose you right now. He is shielding you and has already come to your aid. If you belong to God, this protection is already in place. Smile! Rejoice! Get your energy back. Look at your circumstances through God’s Word. He is at work in everything that concerns you.

The weight of the world cannot crush you
when the God of the universe sustains you.

There’s no need to backbite, defend, fight, or gossip about your situation. No need to worry or be consumed by "what ifs" or "why is this happening?" Let it go, knowing happily that God is contending with the very situations you are struggling with.

That cloud of doom and gloom is the enemy's attempt to keep you from realizing your identity as God’s child.

Stand on this scripture, and reclaim your day, your joy, and your faith. Trust God.

“Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and armor; arise and come to my aid.” ~Psalm 35:1-2
Exchange worry for worship; trade fear for faith.

Prayer: Lord God, in the name of Jesus, I lift up the person reading this. Show yourself mighty on their behalf. Confirm to them today that you are contending with their situation, fighting against those who oppose them. Surround them with your shield and armor, and let them feel your presence as you aid them. Remove the veil that deceives them into believing they are alone and that this moment will last forever. I ask this in Jesus' mighty name and thank you, Lord, for your supernatural help and care. Amen.
