Seeking Signs from God? The Enemy Studies You, But God Knows You: Trusting His Voice!

A soldier studying his enemy looking for signs.

Have you ever longed for a giant neon arrow pointing the way, or a booming voice from heaven declaring God's will? We all crave undeniable confirmation, but that yearning can be a dangerous game.

The enemy, a master deceiver, studies us like a predator watches its prey. He knows our deepest desires, especially our desire for concrete signs. He'll happily create elaborate illusions, one falsely divine message after another, to lead us astray.

Matthew 24:24 (ESV): "For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect."

Think about it: The enemy isn't an idiot. He knows the Bible too. He knows it warns against relying on signs (Matthew 12:39). But he also knows we want signs. He preys on that desire, twisting circumstances and orchestrating "coincidences" that appear divinely sent. How many times have we heard, "It must be a sign from God!" after a convenient "chance" encounter?

Matthew 12:39 (KJV) "But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas.

Keep in mind that when you start seeking signs even though it is contrary to what God has instructed you, you inadvertently provide an opening and legal right for the devil to lead you astray through your disobedience. The devil is acutely aware of your intentions and desires. If you begin searching for signs despite God's guidance, you essentially unlock a door, granting the enemy permission to deceive you.

It's crucial to understand that disobeying God's directives, especially by seeking signs against His will, creates a vulnerable point in your spiritual defense. By giving in to this temptation, you're essentially handing the enemy a foothold from which he can manipulate and mislead you.

Discernment is your shield. By deepening your connection with God through prayer, knowing scripture, repentance, and an open heart in surrender, you develop the ability to see through the enemy's illusions. Scripture itself becomes your weapon, reminding you to test the spirits and ensure everything aligns with God's character and Word (1 John 4:1):

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Fireworks are not necessary when you have Faith.

God speaks in whispers, not fireworks. He guides us with gentle nudges and quiet wisdom, like a trusted friend (John 16:13). While He may occasionally offer breadcrumbs of confirmation (Proverbs 3:5-6), true faith rests on a foundation of unwavering trust, not flashy theatrics.

Break free from the story the enemy wants you to believe. Don't get caught up in the excitement of flashy signs, like cardinals or butterflies appearing out of nowhere, or clouds that seem like angels. The enemy likes it when we fall into predictable patterns because then he can control us. He wants us to rely on outside signs and coincidences instead of building a strong connection with God ourselves.

Cultivate your "sixth sense" of faith. The stronger your relationship with God, the more attuned you become to His subtle guidance. Let God's Word be your lamp, illuminating your path one step at a time (Psalm 119:105):

"The word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

The what?

The Cardinal? No.

The Butterfly? No.

The Cloud? No

The Bible is the Light to our Path! Illuminates our Journey.

His Word illuminates your path, guiding your every step like a lamp for your eyes. Jesus embodies the very essence of that Word! It's not merely about comprehending the Scriptures through diligent study; it's also about cultivating intimacy and a deep relationship with Jesus. These two aspects are inseparable; you cannot fully embrace one without the other

His Word – the very essence of Jesus – isn't just a dusty book on a shelf; it's the map tattooed on your soul for your journey ahead.
John 1:1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14: “And the Word was made flesh {Jesus}, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
Revelation 19:13: “And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

If one consistently looks for signs and confirmations, the enemy will exploit this vulnerability. The adversary is cunning and adept at deception; he knows that signs can be a powerful motivator for some individuals. Consequently, he may fabricate signs or manipulate circumstances to lead people astray. As Scripture warns, "even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14, ESV).

Jesus cautioned against seeking signs as a means of validation, highlighting the need for faith beyond external confirmations.

Soldiers noting the enemies plans and tacticts

Just as in military strategy, where knowing your enemy's tactics, patterns, and vulnerabilities is crucial for success, the spiritual realm demands a similar level of vigilance. Imagine a seasoned general studying the movements of an adversary, keenly aware that predictability is a vulnerability.

If the enemy can anticipate your every move, they can exploit your weaknesses and lead you astray.

In spiritual warfare, the adversary similarly studies our desires, vulnerabilities, and patterns of seeking signs and confirmations. Just as a military strategist exploits predictability, the enemy of our souls capitalizes on our dependence on outward signs and clear-cut confirmations. He floods our path with deceptive 'coincidences,' aiming to misguide us away from God's truth.

Therefore, like a skilled soldier, we must not fall into the trap of predictability. We cannot afford to rely solely on external signs or seek validation from sources that may lead us astray. Instead, we must cultivate a deep connection with God, grounded in prayer, scripture, discernment, and a firm grasp of His Word.

A soldier watching his enemy

Just as a military leader adjusts their tactics to outsmart the enemy, we need to tune in to the Holy Spirit's whispers and subtle nudges of divine direction. Real faith goes beyond needing physical proof, believing in God's plan even when we can't see the way forward clearly.

The enemy, the master deceiver, capitalizes on our dependence on outward signs. He'll flood your path with "coincidences" that appear divinely orchestrated, aiming to lead you astray (Matthew 24:24). How often do we hear people say, "I don't believe in coincidences—that was God"? Do you think the devil isn't aware of this and doesn't exploit it as an easy way to misguide you?

A deep bond with God, nurtured through scripture, prayer, discernment, and a firm grasp of His Word, empowers you to discern and unravel illusions.

So, let go of the fireworks mentality. While waiting for a burning bush or a booming voice may seem enticing, that's not typically how God operates. Instead, He whispers, nudges, and gently guides, much like a wise mentor or trusted friend, because He's aware that your enemy observes your patterns closely. The devil thrives on your predictability, but God knows this. That's why it requires your sixth sense of faith to discern where to go and what to do. As always, it's God's way of safeguarding you!

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." (Psalm 119:105)
The Word of God brings Light. A lamp on a bible.

In Matthew 24:24, Jesus warned us about false prophets who will do amazing things to trick people, even those who believe strongly in God. This shows us how risky it can be to trust only in things we can see. So, it's important to be smart about what we believe and always stick to what God's Word says. Let's be careful and make sure our faith is grounded in the truth of God's Word, so we don't get tricked when we're looking for signs and miracles.

Matthew 24:24 KJ21 For there shall arise false christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
